Clutter clutter everywhere

I spent practically all weekend organizing. I barely made a dent there are so much crap in the house. But I know I am making progress, slowly but surely.

Saturday, I cleaned out the bathroom drawers (specifically zdog's...it is very yucky) and under sink cabinets (emptied a whole section so zdog has his own now). Cleaned out the space above zdog's wardrobe so there are extra space for his clothes. But, after one hour of zdog's sorting and organizing, there is still a whole container full of clothes outside plus more odds and ends lying around. Perhaps we need a more aggressive pruning approach?

Today, zdog attacked paperwork while I sorted and cut out one stash of magazines (one more stash to go) and the business card organizer. Still want to weed through my old magazine cutouts and organize all the travel memorabilia. I am leaving my scrapbooking supplies last because...sigh...that is a ginormous monster of a task. But crouching on the floor all day is killing my back. I think I am ready to call it a day.

2008, New Year Resolution Part II

After much (too much) delibration, I have finally decided this is what I want most to accomplish in 2008.

Clean out my clutter.
Every inch of the house.

This post couldn't come at a better time: Four Laws of Simplicity. I have been organizing around the house, albeit haphazardly because I am easily distracted. But I am now committed to do this for the entire house, following Zenhabits' suggestion.
1. Collect everything in one place.
2. Choose the essential.
3. Eliminate the rest.
4. Organize the remaining stuff neatly and nicely.

...focus on one area at a time, apply the method, and then move to the next area....if you wanted to simplify your entire life, I’d do one area every couple of days until you’re done.

I will document my progress via Flickr, Mission Organization. This resolution is consider successful if the house stays clutter free when Christmas rolls around.

Content and Discontent

Sunday morning
Storm is quiet
Mochi all curled up
Purring on my lap

Sunday morning
Clutter surrounds me
Disgruntle voice in my mind
Questioning the direction of my life

2008, New Year Resolution Part I

I like to start off the year on a positive note and a stimulating goal. I am a bit late this year in my deliberation. Though I think I have finally decided. For 2008, my theme will be balance. It is one of those easy-to-preach-truly-difficult-in-practice philosophies, because it requires constant adjusting, never ending vigilance on my part. So, how does that translate to a resolution? I have no idea YET. :P Still thinking...

2008, the Year of Earth Rat

According to chinese astrology, 2008 is the year of Earth Rat. Prediction for Ox isn't bad,

Ox : 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997

The year of the earth rat brings good fortune for the steady ox. The solid back that carried the rat across the river will be well rewarded. The influence of the Brown Earth Rat means a prosperous and healthy year for the ox but the influence of water will make the year interesting. There will be many choices that will lead to success if the ox remains true to the earth nature. Do not follow on paths that seem to lead to easy success. The wise ox knows that perserverance brings permanent good fortune. While your hard work will begin to bring rewards in this last half of this year, the real success awaits in the year of the ox that is coming. Conflicts and confusion can be a problem in the beginning of the year as water and earth elements of the Brown Earth Rat seek balance. Attention to romantic relationships will bring harmony but neglect will bring conflict. Giving tokens of affection will bring great rewards. Do not be obstinate in your business or personal relationships. The last few months will feel the influence of the upcoming sign of the ox strengthening and lead to full serenity. Wait until then to make those difficult decisions.

Happy New Year!

Just like that, 2008 has arrived. Didn't go out for fireworks. No fanfare or socializing either. Zdog and I wanted a quiet one, and I fell asleep before midnight.
